Would you like to become alabaster artists for a while? At Sarral’s Museum of alabaster, Isidre, a master craftsman, opens his studio every last Sunday of the month, so that the families can manipulate the alabaster, a compact and translucent variety of gypsum. So, put on the apron and take the rasp to make your own art work, which you can take home afterwards. 

Before starting, you’ll go back in time. Just above Isidre’s workshop you will find the current reconstruction of the first alabaster workshop of 1917. You will find the tools that were used to remove the stone from the mountain, with which the cart was transported to the workshop and the first electric winches. The studio gives a good idea how the alabaster was manipulated last century. At the showroom you can see some pieces made of alabaster. After the video presentation that explains the entire process from extraction to piece, the children have the opportunity to see the star piece of the museum: an electric train made of alabaster.

A way to get in touch with the crafts and let the children participate actively!

Timetable:

Workshop: every last Saturday of the month from 11:00 to 12:30. Museum: Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 16:00 to 19:00. Saturday from 10:00 to 14:00. Closed the last week of July and early August, 25, 26 and December 31 and January 1.

Price:

Workshop (includes museum visit): 9,9€ per person working the piece (companions: 3,5€); Museum: Children up to 6 years: 3,5€, adults and children over 7 years: 4,5€.

If you are looking for a place for lunch, go to the restaurant Els Pins de Prenafeta, a rural setting with a giant chess game.

Prior reservation to participate in last Sunday’s workshop is requested, since 10 participants are needed to organize the workshop.
In case you prefer to do the workshop on an other day, you must ensure a minimum of 10 persons. The price of the activity in this case is of 9,8€.
