What's the story:

Like the majority of the Catalonian villages Vendrell also remembers the blessing of the animals in order to invoke the divine protection of Sant Antoni.  According to the Christian tradition, Sant Antoni protected the animals which were used in the field. When he saw an animal in need or injured, the saint cured it and protected it from the dangers.

This is the origin of the tradition of taking the animals to the church. The farmers decorated the animals and, on their way to church, they exhibited them. Originally the animals made three strolls around the church before being blessed. Again you have an opportunity to enjoy seeing carriages and horses, but not without having tasted the breakfast of, slices of cold meat.
