About the place:

If you would like to have lunch in a building with a long history, go to the restaurant Simó de Palau at L’Espluga of Francolí. Before entering the restaurant, walk around the farmhouse. At one of the walls you will find a tombstone of the fourteenth century, probably made in tribute to people that passed away at the Monastery of Poblet since the farm was owned by the Cistercian monks in medieval times. In those times it was a medieval flour mill. Later on it was reconverted into a power station. From this periods there is almost nothing left. But you can still see the chimney of alcohol factory closed in the mid-twentieth century. And ofcourse, you can request to visit the wineries that are located in the basement.

You can accompany the meal of Mediterranean cuisine with a good Cava Simó of Palau. The speciality of the house are the escargot and the rice with lobster. You can enjoy of your coffee at the terrace while the children play in the gardens.

A restaurant full of history where, apart from enjoying good food, you can pick sonmething up about the industrial past of the area.
