About the place:

If you want to have fun with the children  in nature and enjoy of the majestic landscape of the saw of the Montsant, you have to follow the steps of the Carthusians. The route starts at the Monastery of Escaladei. You have to take the path on your left side just in front of the Monastery.  On arriving to a crossroads of paths, you have to take the path that you have left right in front of you, it is just a shortcut of the track that rises to the left. It is a path that rises quite a lot and therefore if you bring you, small children, you have the option to continue along the track on your left. It is less adventurous, but safer.

If you have taken the path, you will arrive to a field of vineyards. You have souround on the left side the field until you return to the track. We continue the path until we cross with an other one on the right marked with milestones and that indicates the way to "La Pietat". Following this path, we arrive immediately to La Pietat, where long ago the onks were  moved to if they were ill or needed special attention. This stage has an approximate duration of 30-40 minutes and can be done with children from 3 years on (always taking into account that there are quite narrow parts and therefore it is important to look after the children very well). The panoramic views on the Carthusian monastery and the saw are impressive from here.

The oldest ones (from 7 years on) who are accustomed to walk, can dare to continue the itinerary that has an approximate duration of 1 hour and a half (without stops) and that will bring you back through a circular route to the Carthusian monastery of Scala Dei. In this stretch there will be some points (between La Pietat and the antique oven of whitewash, and the Pregona source and the Red Caves) where it rises quite a lot and has you have to watch out not to slip.  You can find a map and the whole description of the route in the triptychs of the Catalonian Museum of History and Tourism of the Priorat.

Direction tips:

The starting point is the Carthusian Monastery of Scala Dei. You can park the car in front of the Carthusian monastery. The itinerary starts at the monument. You have to take the track that comes out to the left of the monastery.
