The trip: Punta de la Banya in the Delta del Ebro
Ciclotourism

Amposta, Montsià
Suitable age:
From 3 onwards
About the place:
Have you ever been on a wild beach where flamingos and gulls share the space with kites of all colors?
Only during the summer months you’ll find the fence of the Trabucador open, long sand barrier of more than 5 km long and between 100 and 200 meters wide, which gives access to the small peninsula of Punta de la Banya at the Delta Ebro. From the viewpoint in the north of the peninsula, you’ll have a good view over the salt of the Trinity, where you usually will find flamingos almost year round.
And of course, between the Eucaliptus beach and the bay of Alfacs (bounded by the peninsula and Trabucador) young and not so young will use the wind and the calm of the waters make the kites fly, some even attached to a table with wheels or surfboards, practicing kitesurfing.
A fascinating view with a spectacle of games and water.
Direction tips:
To reach the starting point of the route (the Trabucador fence), you must go to Poble Nou del Delta from Sant Carles de La Rapita to Amposta by T3408. Just before entering the village you will find a fork in the form of "V". You have to take the road to the right direction Platja de l'Eucalyptus. This paved road will take you directly to the beach. At the end of it you’ll find a bifurcation which will take you to the left to the Eucaliptus beach and to the right to the Punta de la Banya. Take the right path which suddenly becomes a path of compacted sand. Approximately 1 km to the right you will find a wooden building with a parking area, picnic tables and a wooden walkway that will allow you to introduce a bit in the Bay of Alfacs.
Those who want to make the journey by bicycle, can leave the car here. To continue by car or bike you have to follow the Trabucador passing the fence. At 5.3 km end of the Trabucador you will reach a small parking area. Here you can leave the car and the bikes and continue on foot for 1.5 km to the lookout. You must return the same way.
The best season:
summer
Timetable:
Access is restricted throughout the year except between July 15 and September 15.
Lunch tips:
You can have a picnic in the area of the wooden building located at the beginning of Trabucador or you can enjoy of the typical cuisine of the Delta at the restaurant Mediterrani Blau at the Eucalyptus beach. To reach the restaurant you have to return to the road where you came from. At the first bifurcation you have to turn right in direction Platja de l'Eucalyptus. When you reach the next fork (T3405)you have to turn right. You will find the restaurant at the end of the street at the beach.
