Suitable age:

From 2 onwards

By bikeOn foot

About the place:

Water has always had a strong attraction for children. What about showing them how the river “transforms” into the sea? From the high tower, the views to overlook the mouth of the Ebro river are fantastic. And with patience, you can see some of the birds that breed and nest in the dunes nearby. From the observatory you can see ducks, gulls and flamingos. For the lovers of sport fishing, it’s the perfect place to spend a few hours beside the cane.

A journey to enjoy the water without getting wet! (See photos)

Direction tips:

You can arrive to the parking area from where the route starts by the T340 in direction Riumar. Between km 18 and 19 you will have to take the second exit off the round point towards Riumar-Port de l'Ebre. You will reach a second round point, where you have to take the first exit on the right, direction "Desenbocadura de l’Ebro and Camping L'Aube”. Follow the signs to Camping L'Aube. After passing the camping entrance,  you will find a parking area. You can leave your car here. To start the route you have to go back towards the camping. Across the street you will find a wooden passage with a sign of GR 99. This is the last stretch of the GR 99 which starts in Cantabria, where the Ebro riber is born. This GR goes across Spain to the mouth of the Ebro at the Delta.

If you want to walk, follow the wooden walkway to reach a nearby river walk. At this point you will find some long reeds while waiting to catch a fish. If you prefer to cycle take the bicycle path that you will find at the car park. Walking or pedaling you will pass a first viewpoint, a few art works and a large wooden tower that delimits the end of the path. If climb the tower you will have good views over the mouth of the Ebro. To continue the itinerary you have to take the path that goes to the left, behind the tower, passing trough a yellow beacon. At this point you enter into the natural Ebro park passing through the dunes and bordering the lagoon Graxal. Take advantage to rest a while in the two bird observatories that you will find on the road. From here you have good views over the lagoon. When you reach the second observatory, you have to take the wooden passage in the opposite way of the observatory. At the end of the walkway, you will find on your left a track that will take you toward the parking lot. This path is wider and occasionally cars pass. Taking this way you will arrive to the parking lot.

The best season:

winter, autumn, summer, spring

Lunch tips:

Although you will not find a picnic area on the route, there are a few benches along the path. If you prefer to eat more comfortably, you can try the authentic Delta rice at the restaurant L'Era del Delta.
