The trip: Following the Ebro from Amposta to the Buda island
Ciclotourism
Sant Jaume d'Enveja, Montsià
Suitable age:
From 8 onwards
About the place:
If you like cycling and you are looking for a flat route with an interesting landscape and wildlife, for sure you’ll appreciate the itinerary between Amposta and the island of Buda.
Following the river Ebro, you’ll find a 20 km long cycling road that connects Amposta with the sea. It’s a route where you can enjoy the river in full splendour: you’ll see boats and above all birds! Take the binoculars with you, because all year you will find all types of specimens of birds. And some are very big!
Direction tips:
Although the route begins in Amposta, we propose a shorter route that strats at St. Juame d’Enveja. You can arrive to Sant Jaume d’Enveja by the TV3405 from Amposta to Muntells. At this point you should continue to Sant Jaume d’Enveja the TV3403. Once there take the Av. Catalunya. Follow it until you’ll find at the left side Sant Ferran street, a small street with a bus stop at the corner. Take this narrow street until you arrive to the Ebro river. You can park at the end of the road at a wider area (you can park 2 cars).
If you come from Deltebre, you should take the ferry Garriga (price: 3€ per car and travel). Once you've crossed the river, you follow the Av. Ebro until the crossroads with Av. Catalunya (you’ll see a pharmacy). Turn left and continue straight until you find the entrance left to Satnt Ferran street.
From here you can take your bike and follow the river passage for 8.7 km to the island of Buda. The first stretch is paved. The last 7 km are of dirt track. Some of them are shared with agricultural vehicles. You'll find banks, a playground, a picnic area and information panels during the journey. On reaching the island of Buda you must undo the way to return to the start point.
The best season:
winter, autumn, summer, spring
Lunch tips:
If you want to have lunch, you can have a picnic just starting your journey. You’ll find a nice picnic area under some big trees. Approximately 1 km further, you will find a playground with benches (no tables). There is also a picnic area at 3.4 km from the island of Buda, on the beach Migjorn. There's a playground, barbecues and tables (but the area is not very clean). If you prefer to go to a restaurant, you can eat in Deltebre, at the restaurant l’Era del Delta, Casa Nuri, or at the Deltarium.
